Diaspora’s First Easter Together

[a post from April 2015]

We had a great opportunity early Easter Sunday to attend a sunrise service at the historic church at Doon Heritage Village in Kitchener ON. It was early but Diaspora, except Rick who celebrated in Peru, was all in attendance. We arrived before the sun rose on a cloudy sad morning awaiting the rising of Jesus.

Only a few lamps were lit in the cold dark church. They hadn’t even fired up the wood stove.

But then as the day brightened and our voices lifted in song, we celebrated the resurrection of Jesus along with millions around the world. And in this tiny building, it’s wonderful to think of the multitudes singing the same hymns that pull at the hearts of believers in so many places. In spite of darkness the light breaks forth!
And it was especially cool that this church building was one of the first UB churches in Canada and we are the newest UB church plant in Canada. And where we anticipated a seminary prof for a preacher we were delighted to find that had changed to the UB’s own Dr. Neil Cudney bringing the Easter message. Bonus!
As you can see below, the day brightened and the sun shone into the ancient church by the end of our celebrations. HE IS RISEN INDEED!

And in truly Canadian fashion, we enjoyed breakfast at Tim Horton’s afterward.
